OSCAR

Sweet, funny and clever

Inês’s had been wanting to adopt a dog for sometime, "but I let it be to life to give me an opportunity to adopt a dog.” While travelling through Viseu with her mother, they entered a pet shop to buy some food for her mother’s dog Nokas. Oscar was sitting alone in a box in the store. He had been bought as a puppy from the store and had been returned 3 weeks later. He was now 7 months old. The woman in the store asked if they knew anyone who would like to adopt him. “Then I looked at the dog and I said 'Oh, I think you are coming with me!' And there it was.”

At the beginning, Oscar did not like being in closed in places and had difficulty being at home alone. But with patience and allowing Oscar time to adjust to his new life, now he is doing great. “I feel a very big company in my house. I like to live alone but I don’t like to be solitary and after the pandemic that touched me a while. I was  alone and that changed me a little bit. So that was the period I was feeling I need some energy, some presence at home. I never feel that again since I have Oscar." Inês loves many things about Oscar. "I love to have Oscar, he was meant to be! He’s like a pot of honey, very sweet. And stubborn, but a good

stubbornness. It’s very nice when I play Kora, he gets very quiet, he likes to listen to it. I love in the morning when he jumps onto my bed and I love to see his face when he steals my clothes. To see him with Nokas, to see them together, the relationship between 2 dogs is beautiful to see.”

Inês is very much an advocate for dog adoption. “I don’t buy dogs. There is a lot of dogs that need to be adopted. I don’t care about the breed of the dog. It doesn’t matter for me. I just like the animal.” She acknowledges that when thinking about adding a dog to your life, you have to be responsible and consider if you have the right conditions. She also thinks it is important to remember "that they are dogs with a personality. As much as we respect that, is as much as we get from them… It's just lovely. They give us so much. They are very well intended, animals…They give you the feedback of feeling happy with simple things with those that respect them…They always show you a lot of love and I love that because I’m a tender person. I love the sweetness of loving other beings.”
